The Rotax Max Challenge Malaysia 2020 Round 1 was held in Sepang Go Kart Circuit on 9th August 2020. Total of 32 drivers participated and since Malaysia is at the recovery stage of the Movement Control Order, the event was closed off to the public and SOP were enforced to ensure the safety of the participants and officials and to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. This is the first Rotax race since the aborted AMC in March due to government enforcing a nationwide lockdown. The Asia Max Challenge Rounds will be on hold as all international borders are closed for the time being.
In the Micromax category, Travis Teoh (DRM Racing) won the race, followed by team mate, Katrina Ee, who graduated from Novice class last year and 3rd place goes to Aldrin Cabiles. Katrina was leading in some of the laps before a more experienced Travis overtook and lead the way to victory.
In the Micromax Novice category, Sebastian Kok (PRU1 Racing) took the chequered flag. 2nd place goes to Saw Guan Xian and 3rd place to Izz Edrain.
In the Juniormax category, Adam Mikail won the race with ease, leading further away from the pack. However the more intense fight of the race is between 2nd to 4th as these 3 racers, Ariff Azmi (Stratos), Timofey Mikhaylov (DRM Racing), Jacob Lauter (C&C Racing) battle it out all over the track In the end, Ariff won 2nd place and 3rd place goes to Timofey.
In the DD2 category, Calvin Wong (C&C Racing) won the race ahead of Amer Harris (DRM Racing) who was leading all the way from qualifying to finals. However he just couldn’t shake off Calvin who inch closer and closer and overtook Amer. Although Amer finished 2nd, he was penalised for a front fairing infringement and dropped to 6th place. 2nd place goes to Putera Adam and 3rd to Nik Zamir who are both IS Racing drivers.
In the DD2 Masters category, Nik Iruwan (DRM Racing) took the chequered flag followed by Thiru Kumaran and Sherwin Chew.
The Rotax Max Challenge Malaysia 2020 Round 2 will be held in Sepang again. In fact, all 6 rounds of the RMC Malaysia will be held in Sepang Go Kart Circuit. As the fight against COVID-19 continues, everyone is to keep practising the SOP and maintain social distancing off and on the track.
